Glare-free PV solution for Schiphol Airport
Share

On the roofs of the new A Pier at Schiphol Airport, a photovoltaic system with our anti-glare film was installed. The project was carried out in close cooperation with our partner Solar Essentials.
The new building covers around 55,000 square meters, includes several boarding gates, and will in the future form a central part of the airport infrastructure. The goal is to create Schiphol’s most sustainable pier – with high energy and resource efficiency, the use of sustainable materials, and extensive roof areas utilised for photovoltaic systems.
As a safety-critical infrastructure, an airport is subject to particularly strict requirements, especially regarding possible glare effects for pilots. By using the Phytonics anti-glare film, these requirements could be reliably met and the roof areas sustainably used without affecting the sensitive flight operations.
The project demonstrates how photovoltaic systems can be implemented safely, in compliance with regulations, and economically even at the most demanding locations – with Phytonics as an enabler for PV on sensitive infrastructure.
